Payroll services for small businesses
We run your payroll every payday: payslips for your staff, the reports HMRC needs, workplace pensions and the paperwork when someone joins or leaves. One employee or twenty, a director on a small salary or a kitchen with changing shifts, it is the same care each time.

What we do every payday
Work out pay and deductions
Gross pay, Income Tax, employee National Insurance at 8% (2% above £50,270) and pension contributions, worked out from the hours or salary you send us.
Payslips
Every employee gets a payslip on or before payday, showing pay before and after deductions, and the hours worked if their pay changes with time.
Report to HMRC in real time
Real Time Information (RTI) means a Full Payment Submission goes to HMRC on or before each payday, even if you pay HMRC quarterly.
Tell you what to pay HMRC
A short note of the tax and National Insurance due, and the date, so the money is ready.

Employer National Insurance and the Employment Allowance
For 2026/27, employers pay National Insurance of 15% on earnings above £5,000 for the year for each employee.
The Employment Allowance can cut your yearly employer National Insurance bill by up to £10,500. Not every employer can claim it, for example some companies where a director is the only person paid, so we check whether your business qualifies before claiming.
Workplace pensions, in plain words
If you employ someone aged between 22 and State Pension age who earns at least £10,000 for the year and normally works in the UK, you must put them into a workplace pension and pay an employer contribution. When someone becomes eligible later, you enrol them and write to them within 6 weeks.
Your duties start the day your first member of staff starts work. Within 5 months of that date you must tell The Pensions Regulator how you have met them, in a declaration of compliance. Every three years some staff who left the scheme go back in, and you send a re-declaration. We keep track of all these dates for you.
Starters, leavers and the end of the year
New starters
We set them up with the right tax code details and check whether they need to go into the pension.
Leavers
A final payslip and the P45 they need for their next job.
P60s
Each employee still with you at the end of the tax year gets a P60 by 31/5.
Payroll for building companies and restaurants
A limited company that works as a CIS subcontractor gets its CIS deductions back through payroll: the normal FPS, plus an Employer Payment Summary showing the CIS taken off so far in the year. So the payroll has to be right for the refund to work. For sole traders, CIS works differently and comes back through a CIS tax refund on the tax return.
Kitchens and front of house teams often work different hours every week. We run pay from the hours you send each payday, and keep tips separate: by law all tips must reach your workers without deductions, and Income Tax is still due on them. Our page for restaurants and takeaways covers VAT and the rest of the picture.

Questions about payroll
I am a director and the only person paid. Do I need payroll?
If you take a salary from your company, yes. The company must register as an employer and take Income Tax and National Insurance off your pay.
What is RTI?
Real Time Information. Each time you pay staff, a Full Payment Submission tells HMRC what was paid and deducted, on or before payday.
Can you run payroll for staff whose hours change every week?
Yes. Send us the hours before each payday, as a photo of the rota or a simple list, and we do the rest.
Do I have to offer a pension to every employee?
You must enrol staff aged 22 to State Pension age earning at least £10,000 for the year who normally work in the UK. Others may be able to ask to join. We check each person when they start.
My payroll has gone wrong. Can you fix it?
Yes. We look at what was sent to HMRC, correct it in the next submissions where we can, and set things up so it runs properly from then on.
